Thanksgiving, ahhhhhh!

 M.O.G.  Giving Actual Thanks!

I have shared what I was thankful for, sort of, this month.  I went AWOL for a few, but want to do justice to the day and say formally..... I am grateful for a few things in no particular order:
I am so grateful for my awesome husband/boyfriend.  He set up the stretch table, indulged the brine, recorded the Macy's Parade, not the other wanna be parades, brined my foot(doctor's orders)several times, hauled boxes up and down the stairs, collected and returned chairs from the chair place, found a soccer ball for the g-kids, set up coloring etc,  funded the feast(in part), being the quality control agent on the food, and went about every part whistling a little ditty.  I really like that guy.  And I am thankful for him every day, not just on the day of Thanks. At the end of the day, he hugged me and asked simply, "That was fun, huh?" I said yes.
I am grateful to have had my children and spouses and grandchildren all together. They are one of the joys of my life.  I think each one is wonderful and we had such a good time, eating mostly, but playing together too!  Each helped with food or setup and I have great cooks and helpers, I must say.  We were missing a couple of family members and we got to chat with them on the computer.  Sigh.  Very nice day all around.
I was glad to have the extended family in our home,  those who came for the dinner, and those who came for the pie and soccer fest!  The pies were amazing, right?  A short list of the pies:  Pumpkin, Pumpkin-no sugar added, Apple(Loretta's Caramel Awesomeness), Apple - no sugar added, Berry blend, Mince Meat/w hard sauce(delish!), Chocolate Cream, Coconut Cream.
That's just the pies, then the Desserts - Mac's Pumpkin Delight Dessert,  Eldon's Pear Tart,  Pumpkin Bread Pudding, stop now!!! Before the weekend was over, Jacob had made Pumpkin Pie Ice Cream and Peppermint Ice Cream.  Forgive me for talking about food now that we are all so over it, but O.K. The creativity of this bunch  is amazing.  I am grateful for
creative minds and the willingness to share that talent with each other.
Thanks to Cammy for taking pictures.  I didn't get a single shot of the turkey before carving or the table or anything, but Cammy did and I am grateful that she took pictures and then shared them with me.
I am grateful for my membership in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It gives me direction and perspective and hey, lots to do as well, and I appreciate all three of those things. I am grateful to work with great people in the CSP Ward.
I am grateful for a this daughter ready willing and worthy to serve a mission and for the blessings that come with her service. Those of you who have sent out sons and daughter know what I am talking about. Her example is a directing force in our home.  For that I am very grateful.
I am grateful to live where the weather is nice at this time of the year.   Not a huge deal to some, but a big deal to me.
I am grateful for our friends and neighbors.  You wonderful folks who live around us and help make our life fun. Thanks
I am grateful for beauty in whatever form it takes, visually, audibly and even texturally.
latest unfinished project to be finished in time for next Thanksgiving, right?
Hey, It's my blog and I love and am grateful for things like fabrics and music.  I might as well say so, right?
These aren't all of the things I am thankful for, but for now I will rest.
Oh there's another one!!
Rest!  I am grateful for sleeping.  What a blessing that is.
K.  There, I feel better.

I'm Back!!!

To Brine or Not to Brine... that is the question.
First, I know many of you felt that I was AWOL for several days on this Grateful journey.  So, Call it AWOL if you want, but I'm back and will make up some of the days as I can.
Just know that in the near future, I will cover,  Madison's Entry into the life of an actual missionary, Parker entering the realm of 60, Babies and older, growing up Moffat, Friends, and many other topics yet to be touched on..
Back to -      To Brine or Not to Brine... that is the question.....
I know that many of you worried about Turkey
yesterday, k, three days ago now,
  Not this kind,
 this kind...
 kind of.... yes!
 Final consensus - Brine.
We will do that again. In the words of Rachael Ray-"Yum-o!"
Actual words heard around the Thanksgiving Board at our house:  "Nothing Wrong with that Bird",
"Actually a little salty, but the gravy is great!"
"There's a Pie per person",
"What are we waiting for?"
"We will be doing this again!"
I think it's safe to say that the Brine approach is approved at the Moffat Casa!  I tell you, that was some dinner!  Each family brought wonderful parts to the meal and it was delish all the way around, both times around for most of us.  I think the Moffats can totally cook.  Next year, you come too, will ya?
Comment  about  the topic - Do you Brine or Not?

Stuff to Do.....

M.O.G. Day 14  I am Grateful for stuff to do.  Work etc.

Please don't judge me for skipping day 13.  I'm superstitious and it would bring bad karma.  As in the bumper sticker I saw:
I am grateful for so many things,  and I want to do them justice each and every day that I post.
I was thinking about how it's been good to slow down and take it easy a little with my foot in the air..... you  know, catch up on the mindless T. V.  etc and read a book and crochet a scarf and stuff like that.

Well that kind of didn't happen, but  I am thankful to have interests, ideas, and maybe a talent or two if I look at it carefully, still,  I love doing things, making stuff, figuring stuff out,  thinking stuff up and then making it happen. Truthfully,  the "rest" was harder that I thought it would be, cause sitting around has never been my thing.
I think I must be back in the saddle gain cause. I spent the day, well not the whole day, but a good part of it today doing Snaps, business.  What is that you ask?
The "Boo Basket" of Halloween Vintage
Well, it's this great place to get yummy cookies and them, packaged in a cute basket etc, with fun tag and everything.  And, It's what is keeping me busy of late.
Watch for Christmas Baskets and Valentine Baskets and Birthday, Baby, oh yeah, we have all of your holidays covered.  Each half dozen cookies comes in a little bag and bow with a little smart aleck saying(a snap) if we might be so bold, like:

I'm just saying ,  I am truly grateful for stuff to do.  Keeps life interesting , don't ya think?

Belonging

Month of Gratitude Day 12 - I am Grateful to Belong!
Sing with Me -  O.K. page 77, if you need it.  I'll wait...... there.
"I belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints,
I know who I am I know God's plan, I'll follow Him in Faith.
I Believe in the Savior,  Jesus Christ I'll Honor His name.
I'll Do what is right.  I'll follow his light. His truth I will proclaim."
This post is in Honor of Jacie Lynne Moffat,
who was Baptized this morning by her father, Richard Parker Moffat III.  We could not be more proud of her and her decision to  "Belong".  Everyone who knows Jacie knows that she is Beautiful, Smart, Very Sweet and a huge Athletic Talent -  She Tumbles very ably and Rules the Soccer Pitch.  But I just like hanging around with her cause she is such a fun little girl!
She is the first of our grandchildren.
We love her and appreciate what a nice girls she is.  Her Mom and Dad have done an incredible job raising her and her brother and sister and she is a great example to them and her younger cousins.  We know she is headed for great things, just watch for them!
All our Love, Grandpa and Grandma Moffat
For Parker and I as well, today brought back memories of our own Baptisms and I can say that it was great to remember.
I am So Grateful to Belong To the Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Cute group eh? - from G-ma-Great and Kelly and Cooper to the Jolley Family from Syracuse Days!
Jacie has lots of people who love and support her!
I think she liked her " Eight is Great"quilt.
In Honor of the Day - Setting a new tradition.

Veterans... Love them.

M.O.G. Day 11   -  Veterans Day
True that!
So today I woke up to a flag in our front yard,  which means it's a Flag Waving Holiday.  But then I saw this on face book and thought, "Light Bulb!"Extra points for the knowledge of the movie.
11-11-11 Veterans Day!
You might not know that my dad actually served for three months at sea in 1945 and here is his "stuff"
to prove it.  He was in the Merchant Marines a division of the  Coast Guard and in his life story he says:
"In January 1945, I went to San Francisco and signed up with the Merchant Marines. We made one trip to Okinawa, carrying ammunition. My job was messman on the ship and I served the captain and crew their breakfast. I was on the ship three months. "

That was about all that was recorded about his service. During that three months, my Sister Nancy was born.  She was Mom and Dad's 3rd child.
I am grateful that my dad made it back safely to our family.  I'm the 7th Child and I guess that would have been no good otherwise. It was a tough time for Mom I heard.  Also the time Dad spent in the Merchant Marines was full of stories and family folk lore that I heard just often enough to be dangerous as to my memory of details.
One of the stories dealt with the serving breakfast to the captain.  It was one of the first days at sea and the Captain always took Catsup on his eggs.  Dad, being the helpful messman that we was, loosened the lid of the Catsup bottle, to make life easier for the Captain.  One little detail of the information was left out for my Dad in that he did know that the Captain always shook the Catsup bottle before using it.  Now, you are supposed to imagine what happened next, right? You would be right.
Second and final story I'll tell was one of those that grew a little bigger every time it was told.  It goes like this..... Dad had watch one night on the ship, and sleeping was not allowed on watch.  In fact, it was a punishable offense and had serious consequences attached to it.  Well, it had been a tough day, and as you might guess, Dad dozed.  He woke up with his head down and arms crossed (probably drooling) and to his worry, saw a very shiny pair of shoes at the end of a pair of pressed officer's uniform pants, facing him.  Owing to my Dad's quick thinking and creativity, Dad raised his head slowly and said, "Amen."  The officer patted Dad on the arm and said, "Put in a good word for me next time, will you, Arnett?"
Gotta love those War Stories, right?
I am grateful for those who serve and have served to keep us free and protected.
May we Honor them always.

Gettin' back to your roots.....

M.O.G. Day  9 -   Teeth -
They have to make me what I am today!!!
We have lots of references in our house about Teeth.
A few - "Watch out, that'll get in your teeth."(While eating something sticky or yummy)
G-Ms'a incredible homemade rocky road candy
"You don't have to brush all your teeth, just the ones you want to keep."

"You only have to brush your teeth on the days you eat."

You get the idea.  Since My boyfriend and his Dad were, and have been in the "business" for many years, teeth are a big deal for our family.  You might even say we are "a little down in the mouth".
So when a dear friend said she got a new tooth( #31 molar) to be exact,
it got me to thinking....... I am grateful for Teeth!  In many ways Teeth  have become the subject of our very communication and our lively-hood.
You know important teeth are, especially when one isn't working the way it should.
So, if that's you,  (you know, needing a new or improved tooth)get yourself to the Dentist of your choice, or call and I can give you some references, and have them send the tooth /impression of the hole to  Moffat Dental Lab.  I know - shameless plug, right?  Just ask anyone who has had a restoration -
K.  I'm off of that now, but just know, that without teeth, you would not be able to enjoy that

double double from IN and Out that you are currently holding in your hand, or how about that Churro from the swap meet, see - you need 'em. Nuff said.
I am grateful for my teeth and for the ones that get manufactured at "The Lab" at the hands of my Boyfriend and Son, et. al. -

I wish I could remember who I am quoting here.

Home of the Brave and the FREE!!!

 M.O. G. Day 8 -
Sing it with the beat now - "This is My Country,
Land that I love...."
 So this morning I voted,
right after I got the stitches taken out of my heal, which, just so you know, I have been a model patient and you know that being a patient is not really my thing.
The boot finally gone, but I have to be a little careful, don't ya know?
Still, after the stitch removal ceremony, My Boyfriend and I did our civic duty and voted our conscience,

which you might guess if you live in our District has been hotly debated. Then went over to
Subway to get a
Breakfast flatbread sandwich and
then looked in on the new iphones (4s, that's right)

and while there and also now as I think about it, I want to say yay!!!

WE live in a free country, .....so far.  So let's be Grateful!!

Last night, we watched and sort of saw me, (in the red shirt, duh, and Rob in a green shirt, meg was in black and Madison in turquoise- upper left if you are facing away from the stage)while watching the taping of The Sing Off.
It was so fun to tell Parker the stories of who did and said what, that we sat next to Katie's Parents(Urban Method, awesome solo, right?)and right in back of the Vocal Point delegation, and get his take, remember he was baby sitting Boston for us.  He is such a giver, truly.
So my point, (please Peg, the point)  is that we are FREE!
We are free to Go to the Sing Off, to have surgery if needed, to shop at Subway is we choose and to buy iphones or Droids or whatever we choose and to vote for Russell Pearce or Jerry Lewis according to our own information and ideas. We are free.  I'm grateful to be free.  I hope that I will always take
FREEDOM
seriously and do my part for the continuation of the Principles of Freedom and keep my voice heard.
And now in the spirit of freedom....... I'm gonna bake up some Gingersnaps
(cause I can!)and send/take them to those who used their freedom to comment yesterday.  Well done you cute people, and
Let freedom ring!!!
k. and notice how cool the white lettering on red and blue is? good!

37 - It's like, Eternity or something.

Gratitude Day 7  -  And a big number
 - Start with 2011 and subtract 1974 and what do you get, Math Whizzes?
That's right, kids,  and that's how long my boyfriend and I have been married, uh... to each other!   Here is the photo to prove it.
Remember when we took all those dead trees and hot - glued fall leaves on them for a backdrop?
It was way cool, I promise.  And we looked great, right?
Not much different from what we look like now either(in our minds at least).  We drove all the way to Los Angeles, because the Mesa Temple was closed for remodeling, so we claim two Temples as our own.  We like to return to "Our Temple  #1When ever we can on our Anniversary.
So, how do we do it you ask?  Well, you need some of this.....
And ignoring a little of this.....
And a whole lot of liking each other in spite of some stuff and because of some stuff.  I'm gonna go out on a little limb and say, "Sure, I would do it all over again." Quote me.  I am Grateful to have a worthy husband and one who is dedicated, kind and helpful.  I am Grateful for our 6 wonderful kids and those who have joined our ranks by marriage and birth. We are proud of each and every one.  Parker(my boyfriend, not grandson) is a great listener and can see good in every person and situation.  He has made making a home for him an easy task, because he is pleased by small and simple things.  He will eat anything I put before him, and there have been a few serious "losers", and some for sure "winners".  He is a fixer.  He gets "it", he makes a great Chocolate Almond Ice cream, though some would argue that his Berry Blend or Nectarine flavors are the winner!
Dang, he's pretty great, right?  Maybe I should keep him.  We took care of that like 37 years ago!
I'm grateful he's mine and I'm his.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Now.  A not so new topic........ Today besides being an anniversary,  It's the day that
"The Sing Off"
is being aired that Megan, Rob and Madison and I attended!

This is last week's offering from Vocal Point, a personal fave.  But holy cow, you will love tonight!

Be sure and set your DVR's for it.  There is some great stuff on tonight and it wouldn't surprise me at all to see the faces of one or all of us a few times, since there was a camera in our faces(mostly the young/cute ones, who were really enjoying the experience) kind of often.  If we are on the T.V. and you see us, and you make a comment here during the regular airing time of the show.  I just might have to reward you for your effort with some cookies.

And you know that I have cookies, right?
Oh sure, I would invite you over to watch with us, but
gee, it's our anniversary,
so I think we will sit on the couch and hold hands(with my leg in the air, that is - stitches come out tomorrow, just in time to vote - I got permission).
